The real question is "should we celebrate the aniversary of 26/11"? Aniversaries are celebrated of happy enjoyable events 26/11 certainly was not one such event. Just because 364 days have passed after that event is this a reason to make it an event? We make events out of nothing. Swearing in in Marathi becomes an event. Slapping becomes an event. Having a majority and still not forming a government becomes an event. 26/11 certainly does not fall in any of the above categories.
26/11 was a blunt reminder to our security services that we and they were sleeping. In the 364 days have the security forces risen upto a level which can instill confidence in us about our safety and security? Unluckily no. have we as supposdely concerned citizens done any thing different that will make a difference in the security environment that we live? Again the answer is a resounding NO. has the government taken any concrete steps by which its own agencies mesh well in case of an emergency and respond timely and as per the demand of the situation? Again NO. Has the media which has encashed the incident to its full commercial potential done anything which can be called as a responsible action on ground? The answer is NO.
Now if the security services have done nothing, the government has other issues on hand, we are too busy in maintaining our crammed daily schedule the media media is just recuparating from the post election fatigue. Holding hands and making a human chain is of no use when we the citizens are afraid of a bully who is raping a minor girl in a crowded local compartment. With spunkless citizens ike these ISI and Pak do not need to train their terrorists very well as they are basically facing cowards who will do their bidding even before a gun is pointed at them. The police will never get time to practice firing of arms and getting their assault drills sorted out and fine tuned because they are either doing the bidding of their political bossess or obliging the local mafia who pays them to turn a blind eye to most of their illegal activities.
The terrorists are not going to reuse the 26/11 pattern now. They have already given an indication of their likely next targets. They will have a new strategy to launch assaults. We are still trying to patch up the lapses seen in 26/11 forget about trying to think of the likely tactics of the enemy in 2010.
Let us try and pressurize the government to get the lapses covered up.
